Box Sash Windows

Using traditional methods and materials with a few modern twists, our timber sliding sash windows perfectly marry together timeless charm and quality with modern efficiency. These box sash windows are traditionally handcrafted in our joinery workshop in Cornwall using british timber that's cut in-house in our own sawmill, as well as modern double glazing window panes, providing you with the very best of both worlds.

uPvc sash windows vs timber sash windows

There's no concealing the fact that uPVC plastic sash windows are cheaper in the short term, but are they any better?

Multi chambered uPVC sliding sash windows are an entirely modern option for your home, and as such it'd be fairly easy to assume that it's a better material for modern homes, but sadly that isn't the case.

As well as being more energy efficient, wooden double glazed sash windows have a lifespan that far exceeds that of a uPVC window, which will become brittle and fragile in between 10-30 years depending on sun exposure, whereas wooden windows can last hundreds of years when cared for properly. As well as having a longer lifespan, timber windows also offer better energy efficiency when paired with the same glazing due to wood's naturally insulating properties.

Sash windows vs casement windows

A vertical sliding sash window opens using a hidden support mechanism, either spring-loaded or counter-balanced using a weighted pulley system, whereas a casement window opens outwards and is mounted on hinges.

Unlike some other modern sash windows, we make ours in-house using traditional joinery methods.

Sash windows for period properties and homes in conservation areas

Should you be lucky enough to live in a listed building, period property, or conservation area, you're probably well aware that windows are generally a protected feature. Because of this, it's very common to have to replace your old windows like-for-like. We're able to match the style of your existing windows in order to be in keeping with the original style, and can even paint them in a traditional style with colour matched paint, providing you are able to provide us with a RAL number.

Please bear in mind that we are unable to reuse the original timber from your home. All of our sash windows are made with responsibly sourced timber that is cut on-site directly from log, giving us the ultimate flexibility and a large number of customisation options when it comes to making your product. We are able to provide both single glazed and double glazed window panes to suit you, as well as security or safety glass upon request.

How much do sliding sash windows cost?

Usually, replacement sash windows cost between £1,000 to £2,000 per window, however we may be able to provide a discount on bulk orders. Please contact our sales team for details.

Do you make double hung sash windows?

A double hung sash window is where you are able to open both the top sash and bottom sash separately. Opening the upper sash enables you to improve the airflow by creating a convection current in your home, allowing cooler air to enter from the bottom, pushing warmer air out of the top, cooling your home in the summer.

Please bear in mind that making a double hung sash window is significantly more complex and will incur an additional cost compared to their single hung counterparts.
